Andrew Rhodes

Mr. Andy Rhodes is responsible for the logistical activities of both the Army and Air Force ROTC programs at Oklahoma State University.  He has been a member of the Cowboy Battalion staff since 2005.

Andy enlisted in the U.S. Army in March 1990 while a student at the University of Oklahoma.  Upon completion of Initial Basic Training at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri, he was assigned to the G-4 Logistics Section, Headquarters, Headquarter’s Company of the 95th Training Division of the U.S. Army Reserves located in Midwest City, Oklahoma.

In May of 1991, prior to movement to Advanced Individual Training (AIT) school, Mr. Rhodes successfully auditioned for the U.S. Army Bands as a MOS 02M-Percussion Player and became a member of the 95th Division Band (Reserves).  Beginning July of 1991, Rhodes was attached to the active duty 5th Army Band, Ft. Sam Houston, Texas.  This OJT (on the job training) experience fulfilled AIT school requirements.  During this three month tour of active duty service, Mr. Rhodes augmented the 5th Army concert band, field band and Latin/Jazz ensembles performing various concerts and ceremonies in the greater San Antonio area.

In January 1992, Mr. Rhodes graduated from the Primary Leadership Development Course (PLDC) in Ft. Chaffee, Arkansas.  The following April, he transferred to the Oklahoma National Guard as a member of the 145th Army Band, “The Governor’s Own” in Oklahoma City.  Mr. Rhodes was honorably discharged in March of 1998.

During his service as an Army bandsman, Mr. Rhodes had the opportunity to perform for various dignitaries and heads of state including U.S. President George “H. W.” Bush, U.S. President Bill Clinton, U.S. Vice President Al Gore, and Britain’s Dutchess of York, Princess Sarah “Fergy” Ferguson.  Most memorable performance was for the friends and families of victims of the Oklahoma City Alfred P. Murrah Building and the one year anniversary memorial service.

As a member of the National Guard and Reserve component bands, Mr. Rhodes has performed at Ft. Sill, OK; Ft. Sam Houston, TX; Ft. Carson, CO; Ft. Benning, GA; Ft. Polk, LA;  Ft. Chaffee, AR and Ft. Leonard Wood, MO and communities throughout Oklahoma, Texas and Wisconsin.  Additional assignments include the U.S. Army Band Reserve Component Conducting Symposium in Madison, WI; Texas Bandmaster’s Association clinician; Oklahoma Bandmaster’s Association clinician; and U.S. Army Band Sound Reinforcement School in Nashville, TN.  Currently, Mr. Rhodes is an active musician in the OSU campus community performing in various worship bands, jazz ensembles and the Stillwater Community Band.

In civilian life, Mr. Rhodes is married to his bride of fifteen years, Renee, and has four children, Elyssa, Brandon, Rachael and Maddie.  As you can imagine home life is busy with two teenagers and two preteens.  He is also active in his local church and the campus community.  In his spare time, Mr. Rhodes enjoys playing with his kids, camping, raising English Shepherd farm collies and restoring his 1966 Ford F100 pickup.
